Ames Federal will play a key role in advancing critical water infrastructure with the award of the San Juan River Intake & Pumping Plant project in northwest New Mexico.

Located in San Juan County about 11 miles west of Farmington, the project involves the construction of a modern pumping facility with extensive sitework, including:

  • Cement-bentonite cutoff wall

  • Steel manifold piping tied to existing infrastructure

  • Concrete and metal building systems

  • Vertical turbine pumps and air chambers

  • Fully integrated systems for electrical, water quality monitoring, and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA).

In addition, Ames Federal will demolish the existing pumping plant and complete key channel improvements, including intake upgrades, new gates, and a fish barrier weir.

The project is part of the overall Navajo-Gallup Water Supply Project (NGWSP). The river intake and pumping plant will serve as the diversion facility for the San Juan Lateral, directing water from the San Juan River into the pipeline system that supplies the Navajo Nation and the city of Gallup. When finished, NGWSP will include about 300 miles of pipeline, two water treatment plants, 19 pumping plants, and multiple water storage tanks. This project represents a continued investment in long-term water reliability, system performance, and environmental stewardship across the region.
